Commercial vehicle dismantling and scrap metal businesses need permits to operate, both from the EA and planning authorities. When a vehicle has reached the end of its useful life it must be scrapped at an authorised treatment facility.
Last Thursday, follow-up visits took place at four sites.
Two operators were left with enforcement letters and applications forms for environmental permits for breaking and dismantling vehicles, one operator was found to be in the process of submitting an application form, while another was found to be compliant.
A further site has also been visited following intelligence where ‘appropriate advice was given’, a spokesman for the EA said.
The EA appeals to the public to inform them of any illegal vehicle dismantlers - reports can be made anonymously via our 0800 807060 incident hotline or to Crimestoppers.
