White van mangled as scrapyard crushes vehicle by mistake
Tuesday 30th October, 2012
HORRIFIED Ben Forrer took an old cooker to be recycled — but bungling workers thought his white van was
scrap and did THIS to it.
The Citroen Relay was snatched up in the jaws of a mechanical grabber and CRUSHED.
Fireman Ben, 33, had been in the scrapyard office talking to the manager for just three minutes when he came out to find the 12-year old vehicle missing.
He looked around and saw it dangling from a big blue crane above a huge crushing machine.
Ben, from Swinford, Warks, said: “It was swinging from side to side so I started shouting, ‘Stop! That’s my motor’ and ran towards the crane. The driver put the van down on the floor but it was already a write-off.
“The roof was crushed in and the windows smashed by the grabber. It’s an absolute wreck. I was furious. Although it was a bit old it had loads of life in it.
“The men said they thought it was odd the tax was in date and the tyres were OK.”
The yard, in Coventry, has now changed its rules and paints SCRAP on vehicles to be crushed. Ben is claiming £5,000 for the van and ruined tools inside.
