Skodahenge created from Scrap Cars

Skodahenge:

Artist unveils replica of the famous stone circle recreated with 18 scrap cars… just in time for Summer Solstice

Sculpture is made up of 18 scrap cars, weighing 36 tons and towering five metres high

A unique Stonehenge replica sculpture has been unveiled to mark the summer solstice - made entirely from scrap cars.

The ‘car-henge’ sculpture took self-taught artist Tommy Gun three months to create using 18 scrap cars.

The five-metre tall, 36 ton structure is designed to withstand a Force 12 hurricane.

Striking: The sculpture - accompanied by fake grazing sheep - is made up of 18 scrap cars

But unlike its Neolithic namesake’s mighty stones, the replica sits riverside on London’s South Bank rather than Salisbury Plain.

It was erected ahead of the summer solstice - the moment in time when the Sun reaches its northernmost point in the sky

Mr Gun, who specialises in huge sculptures made from machine parts, said: ‘The project has been the most amazing challenge.

‘Stonehenge is a huge, iconic structure and the replica is too.

‘It is made entirely from old car parts, which taps into my own childhood growing up on a farm where I used to love building and creating things with pieces of discarded machinery.’

Skoda, which commissioned the sculpture to promote its new Citigo car, claims the Potters Fields site is on ‘little known ley lines’ aligning it with ancient monuments like Stonehenge.
