Tuesday 26th March, 2013

A fraudster has been jailed for 12 months for perverting the course of justice after hiding his classic Jaguar sports car worth almost £90,000 in a bid to stop it being confiscated.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "Originally, Dykes was convicted in 2011 of obtaining a money transfer by deception.

"A confiscation investigation followed, during which he declared that he had no realisable assets.

"Following a further investigation, the vehicle was located hidden behind a false wall at a storage facility near Wimborne.

"The car was seized and Alan Dykes was charged with perjury and perverting the course of justice."

Convicted fraudster Alan Dykes hid a classic Jaguar sports car worth almost £90,000 pounds behind a false wall usinessman Alan Dykes, 55, hid the pristine 1952 silver Jaguar sports car behind a false wall to prevent it from being sold to pay his debts, the court heard on Thursday.

Dykes had kept quiet about the sports car and declared he had "no reasonable assets" during earlier confiscation proceedings.

Prosecutors had been trying to recoup money Dykes had illegally acquired after he was convicted of obtaining a money transfer by deception in 2011.

However, investigators stumbled across the silver and red leather interior car hidden at a storage facility near Wimborne during a search of properties Dykes was known to use.

Dykes, of Poole, Dorset, was sentenced for perjury and perverting the course of justice by a judge at Bournemouth Crown Court.
